Duke Blog Causes a Stir, but It’s Still No Gossip Girl

November 09, 2007 05:39 PM ET | Alison Go | Permanent Link | Print

A "repulsive," "offensive," and "disgusting" gossip blog at Duke University is under attack—both from school administrators and angry students with rudimentary hacking skills, the Chronicle reports. Cybersaboteurs flooded the site—which allows anyone to post anonymously about students, Greek organizations, alumni, and administrators—with a message that said, "You have been pwned." This traffic forced the site to temporarily shut down.

Although the gossip site is operational once again, one of the hackers, who also remains anonymous, promises he is not so easily discouraged. "She is coming down again soon."

Gossip online

I just wish the postings were NOT anonymous. The person(s) who post gossip should take responsibility for their remarks and forces to post their real names. This should be mandatory!
